|Description||This debate took place at LawInSport's 4th Annual Conference on the 14 September 2018. The topic of the debate was ‘The relationship between sport, betting & data'. Speakers: Sean Cottrell, CEO at LawInSport (Chair); Susan Ahern, Barrister and former General Counsel of World Rugby; Matt Drew, Executive Vice President Business Development and Former Director of Integrity & Security at Perform Group; David Lampitt, Managing Director Group Operations at Sportradar AG; Steven Burton Managing Director at Genius Sports; Background: Sport has always relied on analytics to improve performance on and off the pitch. However, the technology revolution has exponentially increased the ability of those working in sport to capture, analyse and monoitise this data. At the same the sports betting industry has become an influential stakeholder in sport through offering wagering products for fans/consumers, sponsoring sports events, teams and athletes, as well as working in collaboration with law enforcement and integrity teams at international and national governing bodies to fight the opportunity an detect match-fixing and spot fixing. However, questions have been raised about the role and extent to which sports betting, data companies and integrity services provides should operate within and work with sport. Our expert panel will analyse and debate how they believe the sports industry should work with data & betting companies going forward, answering questions such as: To what extent should sport organisation partner with betting and data companies?; What conflicts of interest arise from the relationship between betting and data companies?; What checks and balancing should be put in place to address any conflicts?
