European Diving Championships - Glasgow 2018 D7

The British Diving team claimed the overall Championships trophy on the final day of competition. The 15-strong team finished the event with a total 237 points to secure the overall Championships trophy ahead of Russia with 212 points and Germany with 193.

Men's 10m Platform Final

The final session of competition saw two GBR divers in action. Leeds-based Matty Lee battled hard in a contest with the Russians during the early rounds but slipped down the rankings after his final dive to finish fifth with a score of 452.20.

"I'm a bit gutted I didn't make onto the podium especially after diving so well during the prelims this morning but that's diving and sport, unfortunately," explained Lee.

Teammate Matthew Dixon finished right behind Lee, ranking sixth after all six rounds of diving with a final score of 448.90.

“There’s been loads that I’ve learnt from this week. I’ve got a short break coming up now and then back to training in a few weeks, to learn new and harder dives and up scores for next year," said Dixon. “Winning the team trophy was a really great way to round off the week and for the whole team to be up there celebrating was awesome.”

The podium medals went to Aleksandr  Bondar (RUS,  542.05), Nikita  Shleikher (RUS,  481.15) and Benjamin Auffret (FRA, 480.60).

Women's Synchronised 3m Springboard Final

Great Britain's Women's 3m Synchro pair of Grace Reid and Kat Torrance narrowly missed out on a medal in the penultimate event of the 2018 European Championships.

The pair were in charge through to the fourth round with a comfortable lead however in the final round the pair dropped their Forward 2½ Somersaults 1 Twist Piked after Kat Torrance slipped out of position and was unable to complete the dive.

Reid explained, "There was no rhyme nor reason why it happened, it's just sport and that's the final result. We can go back and analyse the result until the cows come home but that won't change what happened. We're obviously a little disappointed with the outcome of today but it's just the nature of the diving, both Kat and I will be back next season and we'll be better and stronger."

Their final score of 270.90 ranked them fourth overall.

The gold medal and European title was claimed by Elena Bertocchi and Chiara Pellacani of Italy with 289.26 points, silver went to Germany's Lena Hentschel and Tina Punzel with 286.80 points. The bronze medal went to Russia, represented by Nadezhda Bazina and Kristina Ilinykh with 282.90.

Men's 10m Platform Preliminary

Great Britain's Matthew Dixon and Matty Lee made light work of the morning prelims session of the Men's 10m Platform at the European Championships 2018.

Leeds-based Lee finished off a strong competition list with new dive in the final round, a Back 3 1/2 Somersaults Piked which scored 55.80. His final score was 458.55 and that meant he ranked second after the six rounds of diving.

"My dives were ok, but there are still things I can polish up and improve for the final. The main job was getting through to the final and that's what I've done so I'm happy," said Lee.

Teammate Dixon, who trains in Plymouth, finished seventh which 423.20 to book himself into the final.

The British pair will be joined by 10 other divers from around Europe for the final event of the European Diving Championships.
