European Artistic Swimming Championships - Glasgow 2018 D4

Solo Technical Routine Final

City of Bristol artistic swimmer Kate Shortman has finished eighth in the solo technical routine final at Glasgow 2018.

The 16-year-old scored 82.7030 in her routine - a score she has only bettered this season at Junior level.

The Russians were again dominant in this event, with Svetlana Kolesnichenko (93.4816) taking the gold, Ukranian Yelyzaveta Yakhno (91.3517) in silver and Italian Linda Cerruti (90.2282) in bronze medal position.

Shortman has already has a busy year, completing her GSCEs and competing in the FINA World Series in Paris, the LEN European Junior Championships in Helsinki and FINA World Juniors in Budapest.

“Kate fell off very slightly on one element and was harshly marked because of that,” said Karen Thorpe. “A lot of the senior girls also faltered on the same element, because it’s very difficult. Besides that, she did another awesome swim and the ranking was right.”

Team Technical Final

Britain's synchronised swimmers secured another top 10 finish at Glasgow 2018.

Millie Costello, Greta Hampson, Cerys Larsen, Daniella Lloyd, Daisy Rushton, Harriette Smith, Abi Taylot and Torrie Usher scored 78.0072 in the final of the team technical routine.

The team, whose youngest member Daisy Rushton is only 15, held their own against older, more established teams with their routine, which was choreographed by Italian Stefania Speroni.

Olympic champions Russia took home the gold with a score of 94.6000, silver went to the Ukraine with 90.7439 and Italy took the final podium spot with 90.3553.

GB's Team Leader Karen Thorpe said: "The team had a good swim and they gave it their all. The new senior elements are very difficult and we have put more time into the junior elements this season, for the Junior Europeans and Junior Worlds last month.

"This was really our first senior competition at this level since 2016, so we are very pleased with the team result and ranking."

The theme of the routine was Celtic, fitting for the Scottish location, with music by Lindsey Stirling.

The Synchro swimming programme finishes on 7 August at Scotstoun, with the Duet Free and Solo Free Finals.
