General Meeting of Clubs 2019The General Meeting of Somerset ASA Clubs (GMC) was held on Saturday 9 November 2019 at The Ring O’ Bells, Ashcott (Skittle Alley) from 10am for coffee, 10.30am start and finished with a buffet lunch at 1pm.
The GMC is one of two occasions during the year to help us to help you. Our Management Committee always hope that as many members as possible and at least one representative of each affiliated Club and Association will take up our invitation to attend.
Whilst the turn out this year was disappointing, mostly due to the second round of National Arena Swimming League taking place the same day, the 17 delegates from 10 Clubs across the county did enjoy a very productive, positive and encouraging meeting, with lots of ideas discussed.
County Welfare Officer Giulia Butler gave a timely and excellent presentation on Safeguarding, ahead of Anti-Bullying Week which over Monday 11 to Friday 15 November 2019 aims to raise awareness of bullying of children and young people, in schools and elsewhere, and to highlight ways of preventing and responding to it. One Club representative commented what a pity their Welfare Officer couldn't be there as they would have benefitted so much from it!
Thanks go to Treasurer Ray Warren for his usual brilliant review of the County finances and Development Officer Colin Christmas for facilitating such positive discussion around development and how the County can help.
The Development Plan was agreed with no amendments and there was unanimous agreement to keep affiliation fee at £1.
All in all it went very well and has given us lots of topics to discuss in January.
