Part 1 features a look at America's best swimmers from 1973 to 76: Shirley Babashoff, Tim Shaw, Greg Jagenburg, John Naber, John Hencken and coach George Haines along with host Don Schollander, the star of the 1964 Olympic Games. Footage of the 1976 Olympic Trials and AAU Nationals, Frank Keefe at the John DuPont Pool - a look back at the days of AAU swimming leading up the 1976 Olympic Games. 

Part 2 features the USA v DDR Swimming Dual Meet from 1974 in Concord California. At the height of the cold war, it was one of the most anticipated swimming meets in history and it did not disappoint the thousands of spectators who saw it. The US Team was led by Tim Shaw, John Naber and Shirley Babashoff. Among the highlights is John Naber's upset of Roland Mathes, the DDR backstroke king who hadn't lost a race in seven years. Narrated by Don Schollander.

Part 3 covers the 1976 Olympic Trials and profiles of John Naber, Andy Coan, Shirley Babashoff and Tim Shaw. Also the importance of volunteers and sponsors, particularly Phillips Petroleum in the success of the USA Olympic Swimming team in 1976.
