Everyone Active - Net Zero

Everyone Active - Net Zero

Everyone Active's Group Development Director Ben Beevers: "We know the world is changing – and not necessarily for the better. That’s why we’ve developed a comprehensive net zero strategy to help us, as a company, become operationally net zero carbon emitting by the end of 2030. We all have a responsibility to make the planet a better place to live for one another and businesses such as ours are no exception. Leisure centres consume large amounts of energy and so are also significant carbon emitters. Therefore, we have an opportunity to put in place a strategy to tackle this and other issues to help make the company’s carbon emissions net zero. In order to achieve this, the net zero strategy that we have formulated encompasses every facet of our business. This will begin with step one, making our central Support Hub operationally net zero by the end of 2023, which will be achieved through several changes, including moving to an entirely renewable energy tariff. This will be followed by step two, working to make our corporate operations net zero by the end of 2030. The steps we will take in order to achieve this will include making all company owned and leased vehicles plug-in electric, installing an electric vehicle charging infrastructure at all our facilities, developing an offset strategy to deal with residual emissions and much more. Read about the three main work streams of Everyone Active's net zero strategy here: https://www.everyoneactive.com/about-us/net-zero/

The Legend of Madame Butterfly, Mary T. Meagher

The Legend of Madame Butterfly, Mary T. Meagher

Mary T. Meagher (now Plant) is a 3x Olympian (1980/1984/1988), 3x Olympic gold medalist (1984), and Bronze medalist (1988) for the United States of America. Madame Butterfly, as she was affectionately nicknamed, took the 100 (57.9) and 200 Butterfly (2.05.9) events to new heights. Mary's World Records stood for 18 & 19 years, respectively! Her career wasn't all flowers and frosting, though. After setting those World Records, she spent the next 7 years trying to better them. She missed out on competing in the 1980 Moscow Olympics due to the American boycott. And in 1984, didn't get to compete against the best because the Soviets boycotted back. Mary swam for the likes of Dennis Pursley, Karen Moe, and Bill Peak. She is married to Mike Plant, Olympic speedskater, Vice President of the Atlanta Braves, and 10-term USOC Board Member.
