Description | Indiana head swimming coach Ray Looze was inducted in the ASCA Hall of Fame in Sep 2021. During his 18 yr run as the head coach at Indiana University, Looze has helped the Hoosiers garner 720 All-America honors, 22 NCAA champions, 18 top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships, nine Big Ten Championships, 10 Olympic swimmers, and seven Olympic swimming medals. Looze has achieved his mission to return Indiana swimming to the elite level it had maintained throughout the 1960s and 70s. Looze was a Team USA coach at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics. His swimmers, Lilly King, Cody Miller and Blake Pieroni, have achieved international success at the Olympics and World Championships while earning medals and setting world records in the process. He has been named Big Ten Coach of the Year 10 times during his tenure - five times for men and five times for women. Looze was named American Swimming Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2017 and CSCAA National Swimming Coach of the Year in 2018. He joins legendary Indiana coach James 'Doc' Counsilman on this list of Hall of Fame inductees. |
