ISL Season 3 Match 2 - Napoli

Cali Condors, LA Current, Tokyo Frogs and NY Breakers  got their campaigns underway in match 2 of ISL Season 3 held in Naples over 28/29 Aug 2021.

Day 1


Kelsi Dahlia (55.63) and Erika Brown (56.54) got Cali Condors' title defence underway in the best way with a 1-2 in the Women's 100m Butterfly in which Tokyo Frogs' Harriet Jones clocked 58.72.

49.03 from Caeleb Dressel's first race maintained Cali Condors winning start with Tom Shields (49.67) finishing second for LAC in the Men's 100m Butterfly.
 

Another CC-LAC 1-2 followed in the Women's 200m Backstroke as Beata Nelson (2:03.96) progressed through the field to take out early leader Kathleen Baker whose team mate Ingrid Wilm (2:04.55) placed second. Tokyo Frogs Cassie Wild (2:11.13) placed sixth.

Cali Condors' Millfield OM Brodie Williams (1:52.92) came fifth in the Men's 200m Backstroke which saw Grigory Tarasevich (1:51.74) and Richard Bohus (1:52.10) deliver a 1-2 for Tokyo Frogs.

Lilly King (2:17.86) and Emily Escobedo (2:18.63) produced another Cali Condors' 1-2 in the Women's 200m Breaststroke in which Abbie Wood (2:19.43) and Molly Renshaw (2:21.17) placed third and sixth for New York.

Tokyo's Daiya Seto (2:02.72) returned to winning form in the Men's 200m Breaststroke with a 2.43s victory margin over team mate Yasuhiro Koseki (2:05.15). Mark Szaranek clocked 2:10.27 for Cali Condors.

LA Current (3:31.29) won the Women's 4x100m Freestyle ahead of both Cali teams (3:33.07) and (3:35.23). 
Lucy Hope (53.55) led off the NY Breakers who finished fourth and Imogen Clark clocked a 55.08 in the seventh placed LAC quartet

Caeleb Dressel (20.86) picked up a second individual win for Cali Condors in the Men's 50m Freestyle with the only sub 21s swim of the race which saw Jacob Whittle clock 21.84.

Abbey Weitzel (23.83) delivered 12 more points for LA Current than second placed Cali Condors' Erika Brown (24.40) in the Women's 50m Freestyle

 A second individual win for Daiyo Seto (1:52.98) came in the Men's 200m Individual Medley with NY Breakers' Joe LItchfield (1:54.78) finishing second and Cali's Mark Szaranek (1:56.93) seventh.

Brit Abbie Wood (2:05.63) dominated the Women's 200m Individual Medley giving NY Breakers a much needed win, finishing 1.63s ahead of LA Current's second placed Anastasia Gorbenko.

Yasuhiro Koseki  (26.27) and Alessandro Pinzuti (26.40) gave Tokyo Frogs a 1-2 in the Men's 50m Breaststroke.

Three Brits contested the Women's 50m Breaststroke but didn't prevent a Molly Hannis (29.41) and Lilly King (29.53) 1-2 for Cali Condors. Imogen Clark (LAC, 30.13) got closest in third, while NY Breakers Sarah Vasey (31.08) and Molly Renshaw (31.45) placed sixth and seventh.

Cali Condors 3:06.98 win in the Men's 4x100m Freestyle earned them 16 points more than those of the second placed NY Breakers (3:08.94) quartet which featured Jacob Whittle (47.03). Caeleb Dressel's winning anchor leg swim was 46.03.

Cali Condors Sherridon Dressel (26.67) won the Women's 50m Backstroke by 0.02s from NY Breakers Alicja Tchorz. Cassie Wild clocked 28.14 for Tokyo Frogs.

Joe Litchfield (23.59) and Brodie Williams (24.77) competed in the  Men's 50m backstroke which was won by Cali Condors' Coleman Stewart (22.61) who dominated the race and produced the only sub-23s swim.

Valentine Dumont (4:04.47) won the Women's 400m Freestyle for LA Current while Brandon Smith (3:42.50) notched up a win for NY Breakers over second placed Fernando Scheffer (3:43.32) in the Men's 400m Freestyle 

Cali Condors earned a 1-2 in the Women's 4x100m Medley Relay with 3:50.25 and 3:52.18. Brit watch on the Breaststroke legs saw Imogen Clark clock 1:07.25 for third placed LA Current (3:53.90) and Molly Renshaw (1:06.47), Sarah Vasey (1:08.26) for their respective NY Breakers teams, the faster of which was anchored by Lucy Hope (53.36). The sixth placed Tokyo Frogs quartet featured Cassie Wild (59.64) and Harriet Jones (58.30).
 

Brodie Williams (52.34) and Joe Litchfield (51.30)  led off their respective Men's 4x100m Medley Relay quartets but match Day 1 finished just as it had started with a Cali Condors 3:22.72 victory - giving them 24 more race points than second placed Tokyo Frogs.

Abbey Weitzeil (51.66) and Madison Wilson (51.75) got LA Current's challenge off to a great start in the Women's 100m Freestyle with a 1-2 finish.

Cali Condors response in the next race, the Men's 100m Freestyle was a 45.94 win for Caeleb Dressel, finishing 0.63s ahead of Tokyo's Nandor Nemeth. Jacob Whittle clocked 47.84 for seventh place.

Svetlana Chimrova (2:05.62) got some much needed points on the board for NY Breakers winning the Women's 200m Butterfly. Keanna MacInnes (2:07.04) had led through 150m, eventually finishing third in a Scottish senior record behind Tokyo team mate Leah Gingrich (2:06.84).

Tokyo's Daiya Seto (1:50.68) continued his winning form in the Men's 200m Butterfly scoring 12 more points than LA Current's second placed Tom Shields (1:52.88). Mark Szaranek clocked 1:58.56.

Sherridon Dressel (57.08) completed a double for Cali, adding the Women's 100m Backstroke win over LAC's Ingrid Wilm (57.28) to Day 1's win over 50m. Tokyo's Cassie Wild clocked 59.14.
 

Winner over 50m on Day 1, Coleman Stewart (48.33) blew the opposition out the water in the Men's 100m Backstroke earning a 37 point haul for his swim being 0.25s under Kliment Kolesnikov's world record set in Budapest in Nov 2020. Team mate Justin Ress was 2.08s back in second place.

Winner over 200m on Day 1, Abbie Wood (58.67) came third in the Women's 100m Medley behind Beata Nelson (CAC, 58.05) and Anastasia Gorbenko (LAC, 58.32).
 

While Caeleb Dressel (51.01) finished 1.73s off his WR in the Men's 100m Medley, his win by 1.51s over team mate Maecin Cieslak contributed another 30 points to Cali's haul. New York Breakers' Joe Litchfield finished fourth on 53.11.

Lilly King (1:03.54) and Emily Escobedo (1:05.32) repeated their 1-2 over 200m in the Women's 100m Breaststroke event which featured Brits Molly Renshaw (NYB, 1:06.83, 5th) Imogen Clark (LAC, 1:07.07, 6th) and Sarah Vasey (NYB, 1:08.78, 8th).

Yasuhiro Koseki (57.09) and Alessandro Pinzuti (57.49) repeated their Tokyo Frogs 50m 1-2 in the Men's 100m Breaststroke.

Winner over 100m on Day 1, Kelsi Dahlia (25.23) continued Cali Condors' dominance in the Women's 50m Butterfly in which Harriet Jones clocked 26.38.

The shock of Day 2 came in the Men's 50m Butterfly in which Tokyo's Takeshi Kawamoto (22.28) beat Caeleb Dressel by 0.07s. Joe Litchfield finisjed 5th on 23.12.

Madison Wilson (LAC, 1:53.74) led throughout and won the Women's 200m Freestyle by a margin of 1.62s

Fernando Scheffer (1:42.86) and Martin Malyutin (1:43.20) produced an LA Current 1-2 in the Men's 200m Freestyle

Cali Condors (3:35.87) won the Mixed 4x100m Medley ahead of LA Current (3:37.17). Harriet Jones' 58.57 contributed to Tokyo's 5th place while Joe Litchfield (52.59) and Lucy Hope (53.33) respectively led off and anchored NY Breaker's 7th placed quartet. Molly Renshaw (1:06.40) featured in their other team.

Abbie Wood (4:29.88) is proving to be the points machine for NY Breakers, delivering 21 in a win by almost 5s in the Women's 400m Medley.

Just as Caeleb Dressel has been the driving force of Cali Condors, Daiya Seto has been piling up the points for Tokyo Frog Kings. His 4:01.10 win in the Men's 400m Medley earned 24 points. Brendon Smith (NYB, 4:05.86), and Cali team mates Mark Szaranek ( 4:08.83) and Millfield OM Brodie Williams (4:10.37) placed second, fourth and fifth respectively.

The Women's Backstroke Skins Race 50m featured a Condors battle between Round 1 winner Sherridon Dressel and Round 2 winner Beata Nelson. The final saw Nelson emerge triumphant in 26.67 by 1.03s.
 

Cali Condors' momentum continued in the Men's Backstroke Skins Race 50m and there were no surprises when Coleman Stewart delivered sub 24s swims throughout. His winning time in the final was 23.30 and the margin of victory over Justiin Ress 2.63s
