ISL Season 3 Match 1 - Napoli

Energy Standard, Aqua Centurions, DC Trident and Toronto Titans got their campaigns underway in match 1 of ISL Season 3 held in Naples over 26/27 Aug 2021.

Day 1

Toronto Titans' Laura Stephens clocked 59.41 in the Women's 100m Butterfly which was won by team mate Louise Hansson in 56.02.

Chad le Clos' dominant 49.27 swim in the Men's 100m Butterfly gave Energy Standard their first win.

A Toronto Titans double in the Women's 200m Backstroke came courtesy of Lisa Bratton (2:02.00) and Kylie Masse (2:03.15).

Titans' Max Litchfield clocked 1:54.66 in the Men's 200m Backstroke in which Energy Standard's Evgeny Rylov (1:49.61) won the battle with DC Trident's Jacob Pebley (1:49.93).

There was another ES - DCT 1-2 in the Women's 200m Breaststroke thanks to Evgenia Chikunova (2:19.21) and Maria Temnikova (2:21.04).

DC Trident continued to pick up momentum with a win for Tommy Cope (2:04.09) over Aqua Centurions Arno Kamminga (2:04.71) in the Men's 200m Breaststroke.

Several Brits featured in the Women's 4x100m Freestyle won by Toronto Titans in 3:29.79. Anna Hopkin (53.28)  led off a DC Trident quartet's 5th place finish. Georgia Davies clocked 54.72 in the third leg of Energy Standard's seventh place finish, and Holly Hibbott (55.27) anchored Aqua Centurions.

There was an Energy Standard double win in the 50m Freestyle events - Ben Proud (21.15) finished 0.26s clear of Szebasztian Szabo (AQC) in the Men's race while Sarah Sjostrom (23.50) won the Women's race which saw Team Bath alumna Anna Hopkin clock 24.47 for 7th place.

Chase Kalisz (1:53.64) gave Aqua Centurions a Men's 200m Individual Medley win ahead of two Titans.

DC Tridents's Bailey Anderson (2:06.44) won the Women's 200m Individual Medley by 0.18s from Energy Standard's Mary-Sophie Harvey (2:06.62).

0.6s separated the top 3 in the Men's 50m Breaststroke won by Nicolo Martinenghi (AQC, 26.03).

Italians put more points on the scoreboard in the Women's 50m Breaststroke thanks to a 1-2 for Arianna Castiglioni (AQC, 29.42) and  Benedetta Pilato (ENS, 29.51). 2018 European Junior gold medallist Tatiana Belonogoff finished 4th in 29.99.

Ben Proud (48.00) anchored Energy Standard (3:08.67) to a second place finish in the Men's 4x100m Freestyle won by Aqua Centurions (3:06.46).

Energy Standard's Georgia Davies (26.76) was 0.01s off a top 2 spot in the Women's 50m Backstroke won by Titans' Kylie Masse (26.41).

Shane Ryan (22.82) made it a 50m backstroke double for Titans finishing 0.36s ahead of Evgeny Rylov (23.18).

Leah Neale (4:01.29) and Siobhan Haughey (4:01.50) produced another DCT-ENS 1-2 in the Women's 400m Freestyle. Bath NC's Holly Hibbott placed seventh in 4:08.47.

Aqua Centurions' Matteo Ciampi (3:42.48) finished 0.12s ahead of DC Trident's Zane Grothe to take the Men's 400m Freestyle win. Toronto's Max Litchfield came fifth in 3:45.45.

Italians featured strongly as Aqua Centurions (3:50.81)  saw off the challenge of Toronto Titans (3:51.00) in the Women's 4x100m Medley Relay. Georgia Davies (57.75) led off third placed Energy Standard (3:51.20). Anna Hopkin (52.31) and Tatiana Belonogoff (1:05.44) featured in the 5th and 6th placed DC Trident quartets and Laura Stephens (58.84) for Toronto.

Energy Standard (3:24.05) won the Men's 4x100m Medley Relay ahead of Aqua Centurions (3:24.58).

Day 2

Siobhan Haughey (51.22) and Sarah Sjostrom (51.55) gave Energy Standard 1-2 in the Women's 100m Freestyle. Anna Hopkin (52.22) improved her ranking with a third placed finish.

There was an Italian Aqua Centurions 1-2 in the Men's 100m Freestyle for Alessandro Miressi (46.30) and Thomas Ceccon (46.43).

Summer McIntosh (2:06.61) picked up Titans' first win of Day 2 in the Women's 200m Butterfly ahead of DC Trident's Zsuzsanna Jakabos (2:07.10). Laura Stephens finished 7th in 2:09.27.

Chad le Clos (1:51.70) finished 0.22s ahead of Zach Harting  in the Men's 200m Butterfly to claim his second individual win of the match. Titans' Max Litchfield clocked 1:55.54.

Titans' Kylie Masse (56.52) added the Women's 100m Backstroke title to her win over 50m, finishing 0.56s ahead of Ali Deloof. Energy Standard's Georgia Davies (57.75) came fourth.

Energy Standard's Evgeny Rylov 49.48 in the Men's 100m Backstroke gave him a clear win over Titans' D1's 50m winner Shane Ryan by 0.94s.

Titans' Louise Hansson (58.82) early lead meant she had to dig deep for a second individual win of the match in the Women's 100m Medley and hold off the challenge of faster finishing team mate Kayla Sanchez (58.89) and Energy Standard's Anastasiya Shkurdai (58.92).

While just 0.02s separated Thomas Ceccon (51.95) and DC Trident's Andreas Vazaios (51.97) in the Men's 100m Medley it earned the Aqua Centurion winner 8 more valuable Club points.

Italians were again in the mix in the Women's 100m Breaststroke. Aqua Centurion's Martina Carraro (1:04.85) claimed the win over DC Trident's 200m winner Evgenia Chikunova by 0.15s with 50m winner  Arianna Castiglioni (AQC) just 0.01s back in third. There was another fourth place finish for Tatiana Belonogoff (1:05.73).
Winner of the 50m event Nicolo Martinenghi (AQC, 56.96) also took the Men's 100m Breaststroke win.

Energy Standard's Sarah Sjostrom (24.98) was the only sub 25s in the Women's 50m Butterfly , earning 12 more Club points than her second placed team mate Madeline Banic (25.32).

Titans' Marius Kusch (22.45) won the Men's 50m Butterfly by 0.12s from AQC's Szebasztian Szabo.

Bath NC's Holly Hibbott (AQC, 1:58.18) competed in the Women's 200m Freestyle which saw Siobhan Haughey (ENS, 1:52.88) take the win 1.07s ahead of Federica Pellegrinin (AQC).

USA's Blake Pieroni (1:44.39) won the Men's 200m Freestyle for Toronto ahead of Stefano Ballo (AQC, 1:44.69)

Michelle Coleman's 52.50 anchor leg for Titans (3:35.89) in the Mixed 4x100m Medley proved the deciding factor as she overtook Pellegrini leaving the Italian AQC (3:36.45) quartet in second.

Summer McIntosh (4:30.05) led throughout the Women's 400m Medley, earning a second win of Day 2 and 11 more Club points than second placed DC Trident swimmer Bailey Anderson (4:31.35).

Aqua Centurions continued to boost their points haul in the Men's 400m Medley thanks to Ilia Borodin (4:02.67) and third placed Chase Kalisz (4:06.94). Titans' Alberto Razzetti came second on 4:04.21.

Anna Hopkin opened her Women's Freestyle Skins Race 50m account with a third ranked 23.96 to reach round 2 in which she clocked 25.58. But Energy Standard swimmer Sarah Sjostrom's first two swims of 24.04 and 24.09 left little doubt that she would be the eventual winner (24.79), deafeating Round 1 leader Kasia Wasick (25.26).

Ben Proud's 22.85 wasn't enough to progress from Round 1 of the Men's Butterfly Skins Race 50m but his Energy Standard team mate Chad le Clos went through in 4th and then to clock 23.82 and beat Titans' Grigori Pekarski (23.88).
