Somerset County Pathway Programme 2020 - Skills Coaches and Asst Team Manager required

Further to announcing the Parents Meeting which will be held during our County Championships, Fiona Bowen, Somerset Secretary & County Development Programme Lead, is very pleased to share the details so far of our 4th year of the County Pathway Programme to be delivered under the guidance of and with support from the Swim England Talent Team.

Programme Outline
As before it
  • Is aimed at top 11 yr old male and female swimmers as at 31 December in the year of the County Championships. Number of swimmers: 36, split 50/50 male and female.
  • Includes Parent / Guardian workshop which will be held on 8 February 2020 during a break in our County Championships at Millfield.
  • Includes the County Coaching Conference (14 March 2020) - for all coaches involved in the programme to attend. Organised by the region
  • Includes 3 One day camps to be held on 16 May 2020, 4 July 2020 and 17 October 2020 - for all coaches, team manager and assistant team manager to attend
  • Will build a team around the swimmers, consisting of Head Coach assisted by Skills Coaches, plus Team Manager and Assistant Team Manager.

The next step in the programme will be our Parents Workshop on Saturday 8 February 2020 during the break at the County Championships.  Fiona has already sent details to Club Secretaries with a request to encourage those with swimmers in the respective categories to attend.  It would also be useful if parents could let Fiona know if they hope to attend so we have an idea of numbers.

Fiona is also delighted to announce our Head Coach and Lead Team Managers for the Programme in 2020 remain the same as last year, giving some consistency. James Clarke from Millfield will be our Head Coach and will work with Lead Team Managers Jo and Jem Sell from Clevedon, so the Programme is in excellent hands.

We are asking our Clubs to help us find 6 Skills Coaches and an assistant Team Manager so we can start to build our team.

Please can your affiliated Club circulate ensure details of these opportunities are shared amongst your workforce now as we will need to appoint the rest of the team by the end of February.

Please download
We have to ask that anyone interested must be able to commit to ALL three dates of the camps plus, for the coaches, the County Coaching Conference on 14 March 2020.

Anyone interested will need to complete and return the appropriate expression of interest form by email to Fiona by 17 February 2020. By submitting an expression of interest you consent to your personal data being collected, stored, used, shared and transferred by Swim England in accordance with its Privacy Policy.

When sharing this information with your coaches and team managers, please also advise them that there will be an opportunity for any coaches and team managers not on the team to observe at the three camps FREE OF CHARGE. This will be an excellent development opportunity for all your coaches and team managers and we will advertise the content of each camp beforehand.

We are grateful for your Club helping to promote this fantastic development opportunity, not just for your swimmers but for your Club's workforce too.

As always, Fiona will be happy to answer any questions you may have by email.
