'One Stop Shop' for all at County level

Regional Director Alison Usher has outlined the way forward for our sport with welcome focus on a co-ordinated approach at County level.  The introduction of a professional County Swimming Co-ordinator, whose focus in particular will be with Local Authority Partners and encouraging lifelong swimming, is a welcome step forward.  Whoever is appointed will work closly with our volunteer County Development Officer, whose focus in particular will remain with Sports Partners SASP and WESPORT realising a co-ordinated approach to development across the County.

Alison said, "The asa has revealed plans, which will come into effect on the 1 April 2009, to change our regional structure.  We have spent some time conducting research amongst our members, customers and partners to ascertain customer satisfaction. We have carefully listened to everyone's comments about what currently does or does not work for them.  The main feedback that we have received from everyone is that they would prefer a 'one stop shop' when dealing with the asa and its services. Currently our customers, partners and members deal with a number of the asa's people in the regions (Regional Directors, Regional Development Officers, Education Officers and Business Managers).  Therefore the restructure will allow us to:
· create a 'one-stop shop' for everyone the asa deals with - from members and partners to customers
· deliver the targets set with Sport England to increase growth and to sustain and excel in the sport
· allow the asa to lead the Government's Free Swimming initiative
We intend to go from having all regional staff operating out of eight regions to creating 49 County Swimming Co-ordinator positions within the asa. These County co-ordinators will effectively become the local asa personnel and will be based in a County sports partnership area. Senior staff will continue to work at a regional level."

More information will become available during March.  As a County we look forward to hearing who has been selected as our County Swimming Co-ordinator whose job description can be viewed HERE.  With Regional Development and Education Officer posts being phased out, as a County we hope to see an 'available and co-ordinated approach' to courses and Swim 21.  David Flack, our County Development Officer, will continue to work with the Region on our behalf and provided regular updates as to the way ahead!
