Job: Teaching / Coaching Swimming at Keynsham ASC

Keynsham ASC welcomes applications from swimming coaches, and swimming teachers with experience of coaching competitive junior swimmers.

The role will involve teaching and coaching their Junior Squad (ages 7 to 12 years, “learning to train” on the Athlete Development Support Pathway) and their Competition Squad (approaching or at County to Regional Championships level, "training to train"). In addition to coaching, the successful applicant will work with their team of volunteer coaches, teachers, and assistant coaches to coordinate the annual training and competition programme for their competition squad, oversee movements between squads and into the City of Bristol performance programme, and maintain records of swimmer progress.

The Club is looking for someone with the following attributes:
  • Can effectively teach competitive swimming skills;
  • An effective communicator with colleagues, parents and swimmers, building mutually respectful relationships
  • Organised, reliable and punctual
  • Values all their swimmers, and encourages each swimmer to achieve their potential

Keynsham ASC is a friendly, SwimMark accredited, community-based swimming club with around 150 swimming members, from prelim squad to competitive Regional Potential squad. The Club currently trains at Hengrove and Culverhay Leisure Centres whilst its main training base at Keynsham Leisure Centre undergoes refurbishment (due to re-open early 2020). The Club is part of the City of Bristol Swimming Club Network, with swimmers who are competing at a good regional level able to trial for their performance programme. The Club punches about its weight in competitions, for example it was in the A Final of the Southern Junior League in September 2019.

This is an hourly-paid position of approximately 8 hours a week coaching with some administration time, and support of one weekend competition per month (up to 16 hours). Pay is between £16 and £20 per hour depending upon experience.

Keynsham is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all stakeholders to share this commitment. All appointments are subject to relevant checks, including satisfactory completion of routine safeguarding checks and two references.
