2019 Clevedon Open Water Long Swim

This event is an annual tradition dating back to 1928. On 3 August 2019, swimmers enjoyed the mile long swim from Ladye Bay, under England’s only Grade 1 listed pier to finish on Clevedon Beach, with a little help from the tide.

A fantastic entry by Taunton School saw their team's efforts well rewarded. Fastest overall and 1928 Trophy winner of the Oakhill Brewery Cup was Ollie Heard who is also a member of Taunton Deane Swimming Club. Ollie swam in the U16 Elite Skins category and clocked 14m 7s, finishing 9s ahead of Backwell SC's Elite Skins Open category swimmer Phillip Duma.

Gemma Owen (Exeter City Swimming Club, Open Skins) was the first female to finish in 14:54 and was awarded the Rose Bowl trophy.

Taunton School's and Taunton Deane SC's Holly Cleverly warmed up for her Open Water National Age Groups event in Rotherham with a fantastic 8th place finish overall in 16m 10s which won her the U14 Skins category. She was the youngest to achieve a top 15 finish this year.
