A new agreement between Places Leisure and the Institute of Swimming is set to support more than 116,000 children learning to swim. The partnership will help provide ‘high-quality and fully-qualified’ teachers across the country.

The three-year deal will see the Institute of Swimming deliver an aquatic workforce development plan to ensure all teachers are trained to the highest standards.

Places Leisure run swimming lessons at more than 70 pools across the country including Parish Wharf and Strode Leisure Centres. Mark Haslam, head of sport from Places Leisure, said: “As a social enterprise, working to ‘create active places and healthy people’ we are delighted to continue our partnership with the Institute of Swimming.”

“We aim to encourage even more children to learn this lifesaving skill and enjoy the many benefits that swimming can offer.”

“Our renewed partnership will enable us to continue offering high-quality and fully-qualified swim teachers to support more than 116,000 children learning to swim each year in the 74 pools we manage on behalf of our local authority partners.”
