Celebrating our Young Volunteer Stars - Katie Chambers
Katie Chambers is a Club Captain at Wells Swimming Club and has a near 100% attendance record. She assists with coaching younger swimmers and Team Managing at Open Meets the Club attends.
In February, Katie organised a fund raising event for the Club, ‘The City2City Swim’, in which 70 swimmers attempted to swim the combined distance between England's two smallest cities, Wells and The City of London in 10 hours.
Katie arranged the promotion of the event, including leaflets, encouraging participation and fundraising. During the event, Katie also supervised all activities along with swimming as well.

The Club's swimmers absolutely smashed their target and after 10 hours in the pool, their combined final total of lengths was 10,678 (267km), far exceeding the original goal of 7200 lengths. In fact the total was just short of swimming from Wells to Dover and some swimmers achieved distances in excess of 10km!
The aim of raising funds to support coaching and buy new equipment for the Club was achieved.
We were delighted to see Katie nominated for Young Volunteer of the Year. Her inspirational effort has raised £2334.
