Development

Somerset ASA 2015 Championships

Is there something you need which you think will make a difference to your members, swimmers, volunteers, parents or families? And you are ready to make a case for it?

Read on...!

County Development Funding is for those times when a club or a group of clubs is ready to Grow, Develop, Improve some key aspect of what they do; when some additional financial support will help promote, kickstart or help to make it happen.

In most applications we are looking for additional or new opportunities you think will make a difference short term and which can be sustained beyond the initial project. A lot of the planning, preparation and financial thinking has already been done.

We like projects where several clubs are involved and we look at how many swimmers, coaches, parents etc will benefit from the project or the equipment.

Somerset ASA's commitment to Development

This is detailed in the 'living' County Strategic Development Plan for 2023/24 and Suplementary Guidamce which was agreed at our 2023 AGM and will continue support in key areas. Any updates will be published on this page.

Clubs are encouraged to apply for support if, individually or jointly, they have a project or initiative which meets the County objectives and priorities.

Governance

Green

The stuff that effective committees do to ensure the club is fit for purpose and the future; having a constitution, setting out and maintaining required standards, policies and procedures, looking after the financial side and the needs of its members - being accountable for the club's actions and decisions, and so on.

The Club Matters animation below will take you through the principles of Good Governance and also help guide you to further support.

Volunteer and Workforce Development

Green

We will support the 2023/24 Young Volunteers programme which will again be run by Swim England South West (see 2022/23 info) - but we will look favourably on initiatives involving parents, helpers and indeed anyone involved in the smooth running and the success of the club and Somerset swimming.

Athlete Development

Green

Activities, programmes and events which enable clubs to develop the potential of their swimmers. Projects typically involve developing skills, knowledge, behaviours and performance at every stage on the swimmer journey.

Please see related opportunities in the Supporting the Developing Age Group Swimmer section below.

Collaboration

Green

We want more clubs to work together and offer opportunities and benefits to a wider ‘group’ of swimmers, coaches and parents.

This is usually as part of a formal agreement or partnership arrangement but sometimes it applies when a few clubs see the advantage of a joint enterprise and initiative and agree to work together to achieve it.
