Safeguarding
Please read this guide to training and funding which explains which courses will be funded by Somerset ASA and the Region and details the process to follow when booking a Safeguarding course.

Swim England’s new online Safeguarding CPD developed by the National Governing Body’s Child Safeguarding, Qualifications and Educator Training teams was launched on 6 Apr 2020. The result? An in-depth and relevant CPD created specifically for aquatics teachers and coaches.

Team Manager Training
The Team Manager 1 Course is aimed at those who are starting out on their volunteering journey and focuses on single day competitions or camps where there is no overnight stay. It covers all aquatic disciplines and will be delivered via a two and a half hour webinar hosted on Zoom. Participants will be guided through the course content, be able to ask questions and get involved with the group text discussions. You must be 18+ to attend.
As part of the review of the Swim England Team Manager Training, there is a new method for booking and registering for these courses. Clubs / organisations complete the team manager course booking form and send it to their relevant regional contact. Swim England South West keep an expression of interest list so please email swimsouthwest@swimming.org to be added to it.
Free online Team Manager 2 courses are a 'great opportunity' to build on skills. They cover all aquatic disciplines and are delivered via Zoom. View dates.

Any CPD queries / registrations should be sent to cpd@swimenglandqualifications.com and these will be picked up by the relevant people.

If you are interested in developing further as a Team Manager within your County, the South West Region or nationally please email stacey.millett@swimming.org who will be able to advise you of the opportunities available.
NB if you are struggling to fill courses please let the Regional Office know so they can advertise the opportunities to their contacts in the Region for you.

Bursary Funding
Somerset ASA is pleased to contribute to bursaries which support development.
Funding is available for Swim England / UKCC Level 1 and Level 2 Teacher and Coach Education Courses for all disciplines by submitting Swim England South West's application form to nominated County Officer Mike Coles, County Secretary and cc Colin Christmas, County Development Officer (contact details for both) and remember to copy in the Regional Finance Officer) . Please indicate on the form in which year you completed a Somerset ASA Young Volunteer Program if you wish to be considered for an additional £50 County bursary for those who did so.
If you are actively working within a club network you may be eligible for funding from Swim England South West Region. Two funding pots are available - please see the below forms for more information. Please note, Swim England South West Swimming Committee will not fund Diving, Open Water, Artistic Swimming or Water Polo activities. Club Matters workshops
These aim to support individuals connected with clubs, community groups and organisations delivering sport and physical activity. There are 10 workshop topics to choose from and each workshop lasts for two hours. Workshops can be delivered through a virtual classroom or in a face-to-face format, with a course tutor.
Club Matters workshops are funded by Sport England and therefore there is no cost. All they ask is that workshop organisers guarantee to meet the minimum number of delegates required to run the workshop. Want to organise a Club Matters workshop? See how you can do so for free.
