Regional Masters Swimming Development Days 2018

Swim England’s regions have released details of their 2018 development days for Masters swimmers to improve their swimming technique.

The development days should suit most levels of Masters swimmer (18 – 100-year olds) who can swim all four strokes (ish).

For specific details of each programme please see the booking links below. They will include a mixture of the following:

  • Land training
  • Pool sessions
  • Talks ranging from the psychology of swimming to diet and nutrition
  • An opportunity to receive individual feedback from a coach, talk to other swimmers, find out what’s going on in your local area and get more involved in the organisation of Masters swimming.

Commenting on our local event on 13 May 2018 (8.45am to 5.15pm) at University of Bath, BA2 7AY, Sue Haigh said “The South West Regional Masters Development Day features the ‘dream team’ of Masters multi-world record holder Jane Asher, motivational speaker & Sports Psychologist Dr Karen Howells and the National Masters and Open Water Officer, Sharon Lock.”

Participants from last year’s South West Development day said: “It was an excellent day. The sport psychology lecture was mind-blowing and has dramatically changed the way I train.”

Swim England South West Region


Sunday 13 May 2018 (8.45am to 5.15pm) - University of Bath, BA2 7AY

– 2 hour pool swim
– Yoga / strength and conditioning session
– Q & A session or optional extra swim

Cost: £25

Who: Sports psychologist Dr Karen Howells, Masters multi world record holder Jane Asher, Swim England National Masters Officer Sharon Lock

Places are limited to 36 and will be given on first come first served basis. Initially places will be offered up until Thursday 19 April 2018 to members of SW clubs over 18yrs. After this date any free places may be offered to masters swimmers in other regions.

Swim England East Region


Saturday 7 April 2018 - Basildon Sports Village, SS14 3GR

Cost: £15 (includes lunch)

The East Region Masters Development Day takes place between 12pm – 6pm and will offer a mixture of sessions to help Masters swimmers, including psychology, strength and conditioning and a 1.5 hour long course pool session.

Places are limited due to facilities available and preference will be given to Swim England members from the East region.

Swim England East Midland Region


Sunday 25 March 2018 - David Ross Sports Village, NG7 2RD

Cost: £15

The Swim England East Midland Development Day takes place from 10am – 4:30pm and is open to all Swim England registered Masters swimmers.

Swim England North West Region


Late September 2018

Preference will be given to Swim England members over 18yrs form the North East and North West regions. Further details including booking and cost to be confirmed.

Swim England South East Region


Saturday 7 April 2018 - ACS Cobham International School, KT11 1BL

Cost: £25

There will be a classroom session where stroke basics will be explained followed by two pool sessions all conducted by a qualified coach.

In the pool stroke improvement drills will be practiced and each swimmer’s performance will be analysed and possible improvements identified.

In addition there will be gym sessions with exercises for core strength, mobility and flexibility.

The day will conclude with a panel discussion with Masters world champions’ Jane Asher and Mike Hodgson and National Masters Officer Sharon Lock.

Preference will be given to Masters swimmers from Swim England affiliated clubs in the South East region.
