British Paralympic Association Athletes’ Commission seeks new members

Paralympians have the opportunity to help shape the future of their sport by becoming members of the British Paralympic Association Athletes’ Commission.
The commission is vital to ensuring the athlete voice is heard and plays a significant role in shaping ParalympicsGB planning for Winter and Summer Games.

There are five places available as a number of commission members have completed their statutory four-year terms and nominations are now open. The BPA will appoint three current Paralympians and two who have retired.

David Clarke, who is standing down as Chair of the Athletes’ Commission as he is now a BPA Board member, said: “The Athletes’ Commission is fundamental to the BPA ensuring that athletes are central to the strategy and planning of the organisation. You can make a significant difference as a member and I would urge athletes to consider putting themselves forward.”

Candidates for this crucial role have to be aged 18 or over, a Paralympian who competed not more than 12 years from their year of election and have never been sanctioned in relation to the World Anti-Doping code.

The Commission seeks to represent a balance of summer and winters sport, male and female athletes and a range of impairment groups.

The deadline for applications is 26 January 2018 with shortlisting and voting concluded by 18 Feb. Successful applicants will begin their new role with an induction in March.
