South Somerset District Council has organised a series of activities to coincide with hundreds of events across the country over the weekend.

Visitors to the centre in Yeovil can receive free inductions, half-hour Springs Gym workouts, aerobic classes and free access to fun sessions including the pool Waterwalkerz which allow users to walk on water within an inflated ball, and sea scooters which propel you around and under the water.

The district council is also challenging visitors to take part in a Land's End to John o'Groats exercise bike ride on the gym's state of the art Trixter X-dream bikes.

The activities will extend into Sunday as part of the Yeovil Streetfest event where fully qualified coaches will be offering free athletics and rugby coaching.

The event, which is being organised by South Somerset District Council and Streetfest UK, is part of a wider project supported by the Local Strategic Partnership and Somerset PCT to improve health and well being for local residents.

Cllr Sylvia Seal, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture for South Somerset District Council explained, "We want South Somerset to be a part of the Olympic spirit. Activities are being held throughout the country so it was important to us that our residents were also given extra opportunity and encouragement to try out local sports and exercise facilities and generally have fun in an active way, for free.

"It is all part of a larger piece of work by the district council to encourage more people into leading active lifestyles and participate in sport."

Activities will take place at various times throughout Saturday and further information is available from Goldenstones on 01935 845888 or on the Goldenstones website.
